Partnership with parents and other carers Policy
A good working partnership between parents and child minder will help to ensure the best care for your child. Time taken to communicate and make agreements now, will prevent problems in the future. It is important that you are clear about the care you want for your child, likewise I will be honest and realistic about what I can offer in terms of care for your child.
Before your child starts settling in with me I will hold a meeting with you to discuss my policies and procedures, to talk to you about your child’s needs, preferences, routines, etc. and to agree and sign a child minding contract, detailing the hours of care and rates of pay.
I will continue to work in partnership with you for as long as your child attends, by giving you daily feedback about your child’s wellbeing, by sharing any developments your child makes with you, by discussing their interests at home with you, by letting you know about any behavioural issues or other concerns, by asking about any changes to their usual routines or care needs. Regular communication will help us to work together to support your child’s development and ensure I can provide consistent care for them.
If I am not clear or familiar with aspects of your child’s care I may need to ask you to show me or explain it to me in more detail. I want to be clear so that I can confidently care for your child. Whilst caring for your child I will also take cues from them about their needs. If I feel that your child may benefit from a change to their usual routine I will always discuss this with you. If I can foresee that their usual routine will be disrupted by the routines of the other children I am caring for (such as collecting children from school) I will discuss this with you. I will never agree to follow a routine or care for a child in a way which is damaging to them or does not help them to thrive; your child’s needs and wellbeing is paramount.
If your child attends another child care setting such as pre-school or nursery I will make contact with them with your permission. I will work with them to ensure the best joint care and development for your child. I will pass on any information I get from them about your child’s wellbeing and development.
I will ask parents, carers and children to complete regular questionnaires on my setting and service in order to gain their views.
