Ratio variations Policy
The EYFS 2014 states that changes to the usual ratios for childminders may be made in exceptional circumstances to allow childminders to offer continuity of care for families whose children already attend the setting and need to change their hours of attendance and /or for siblings of children who need to attend alongside them.
A change to the usual ratios must only be made if the childminder can show it is in the best interests of the children.
Changes to the usual ratios can also be made to allow the childminder to care for 2 babies at the same time, and when a child is in full time school to allow the childminder to care for another child in the early years age group.

- Share this policy on ratio variations with parents and carers
- Do a thorough risk assessment on the impact of the changes
- Inform parents of the changes to ratios and consider their views
- Ensure local planning laws and insurance requirements are met
